Executive Spotlight: David Kier, Arete Associates Chairman, President and CEO

David Kier, Arete Associates

David Kier was named Arete Associates president and CEO in 2009 and has served as chairman of the company’s board of directors since 2004.

Previously, Kier was vice president for Lockheed Martin’s force protection activities. In that role, he was responsible for establishing programmatic strategy to support the Missile Defense Agency.

Kier was a public servant for 35 years until his retirement in 2001.

Between May 1997 and August 2001, Kier served concurrently as the deputy director of the National Reconnaissance Office and as principle deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force.

Kier has received both the CIA‘s and the intelligence community’s Distinguished Service Medal for technical and managerial accomplishments.

Kier received a Bachelor of Science in physics from Washington and Jefferson College. He is also a graduate of the National War College in Washington, D.C. and the program for government executives at the Kennedy School of Government from Harvard University.
