Rockwell Collins recently introduced a digital replacement solution for tape-based IFE systems. The firm made the announcement at the 2011 Airline Passenger Experience Association Expo in Seattle, Wa. The Digital Media Reproducer is equipped with a digital head-end replacement for video tape reproducers.
The technology offers a quick solution for modernizing the cabin IFE without overhauling the entire system. It also addresses the needs for airlines to move to a more reliable, higher-quality digital platform while mitigating decreasing hi-8 cassette availability and will be available in early 2012.
