HP has decided to continue operating its personal-computing unit, rejecting to spinoff the personal systems group as proposed by recently replaced CEO Leo Apotheker.
The decision was made after an evaluation of the personal system group’s contributions to HP“™s solutions portfolio and overall brand value.
The company said the cost of recreating PCs in a standalone company outweighed any benefits of separation.
“HP objectively evaluated the strategic, financial and operational impact of spinning off PSG. It“™s clear after our analysis that keeping PSG within HP is right for customers and partners, right for shareholders, and right for employees,“ said Meg Whitman, HP president and CEO. “HP is committed to PSG, and together we are stronger.“
