The U.S. Army BOSS-U program has awarded Northrop Grumman a contract to further develop and supply the IntegenX RapidHIT 200 human DNA identification system.

The system automates and accelerates the process of producing standardized DNA profiles from cheek swabs, human tissue samples, and other objects with low copy numbers of DNA. IntegenX was recently tested at a Defense Department exercise where the RapidHIT system correctly identified DNA matches in less than two hours.

“With the successful demonstration of prototype versions of the RapidHIT 200 System, the BOSS-U award will enable us, in partnership with Northrop Grumman, to accelerate the delivery of field-forward DNA identification to warfighters during 2012,” said Stevan Jovanovich, president and CEO of IntegenX Inc.

Jovanovich also said other DNA system services had normally taken 12 to 15 hours to decode human identification. Numerous state, local, national and international law enforcement and security agencies use DNA-based human identification.
