The U.S. Army recently conducted a test of the backbone of its WIN-T communications network at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, its largest instrumented test ever at that base.

The test examined the network’s ability to provide network functions to troops in motion, which required the collection and analysis of thousands of gigabytes of data, according to a release from Sotera Defense Solutions.

The current WIN-T increment can provide high-speed and high-capacity voice, data and video only to stationary battlefield units.

The firm said it produced kits and hardware necessary to collect and analyze the data for the second phase of the test and Harry Cunningham, director of the ATC C4ISR directorate, said Sotera’s preparation and analysis support was “critical to the conduct of the testing.”

A nationwide test that will employ all system elements for the duration of the test is scheduled for May 2012.
