DRS Mast Mounted Sight Program Wins Aviation Week Award

DRS Technologies’ reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition group has won a Program Excellence award from Aviation Week magazine for its Mast Mounted Sight sustainment program, mounted on the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter. DRS was the only winner in the sub-system sustainment area.

“The RSTA team is most appreciative of the program excellence recognition we have received from Aviation Week,“ said the team’s president Terry Murphy. “We are proud of our innovations in thermal imaging devices and are pleased to share our best practices and lessons learned with the industry.

“Although it was originally designed more than 30 years ago, the Mast Mounted Sight is more effective than ever with updated electronics, detection technology and other components from DRS Technologies,“ Murphy said.

NASA Picks Luna’s RIO Laser for Navigation Doppler LiDAR

NASA has selected a Luna Innovations-built semiconductor laser for use in its Navigation Doppler LiDAR system. “To precisely measure the vehicle speed, direction, and distance, our NDL system uses both Doppler shift and laser beam travel time, which requires a highly stable single-frequency laser source,” said Farzin Amzajerdian, NDL principal investigator from NASA Langley Research Center. “The RIO laser from Luna Innovations has met NASA’s requirements for high reliability, low noise, and ultra-narrow linewidth.”
