Raytheon reported today that during a recent experiment at Fort Benning, Ga., it was able to simultaneously transmit data, voice and video in real-time between smartphones and tablets over both 3G and military tactical radios.
The company said it was the first time it was able to do this without any service interruptions using its One Force communications solution.
Oceus Networks provided the mobile 3G base stations for the experiment with battlefield C4ISR implications.
Raytheon wrote in a release that soldiers participating in the experiment were able to:
- View live video from an unmanned aircraft system
- Transmit drawn pictures from one smartphone or tablet to all other mobile network devices
- See every group member’s position
- Talk and exchange data over the mobile networks
