Siemens Healthcare has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MobileMD Inc., a health information exchange solutions firm.

“Siemens was impressed with MobileMD’s capabilities to enable this level of data sharing while maintaining an impressive focus on customer satisfaction. MobileMD customers can expect to continue to experience this same level, or an improved level, of service, commitment and partnership,” said John Glaser, CEO of Siemens Healthcare’s health services business unit.

MobileMD’s cloud-deployed HIE patient information services are used by more than 110 hospitals and more than 2,000 physician practices.

MobileMD aims to make data more readily available and reduce providers’ reliance on paper, phone and faxed information.

It also works to improve patient care by eliminating duplicative records and unavailable information.

“The goals behind many of our country’s broad, health reform initiatives are intended to improve the quality of care by doing two basic things: increase utilization of electronic technology, for a variety of benefits, and improve the coordination of care among entities that had previously not shared data well,” said Glaser.
