General Dynamics will tap its Fairfax, Va.-based advanced information systems operations to undertake what the Defense Department is calling an ‘innovative’ round of technological research for the Navy’s combat systems.
On the award, the business unit will research next-generation combat system display concepts and how to utilize high-resolution color displays.
The announcement did not specify if these efforts are meant to complement the commercial off-the-shelf technology General Dynamics will develop for total ship monitoring on the contract.
The company will also research migrating Naval combat system software to open systems and the use of JAVA applications in combat systems.
