Siemens‘ U.S. industry sector announced Monday that it has reached an agreement to purchase eMeter Corp., a California-based manufacturer of smart energy grid meter data management platforms and application software.
Siemens said it will add eMeter to the smart grid division of Siemens’ infrastructure and cities sector. Siemens expects to close the deal this month and did not release terms.
Siemens Government Technologies CEO Judy Marks told ExecutiveBiz that while the move will benefit the company’s commercial business, it also reflects Siemens’ understanding of current and future federal government demand.
“The government is seeing the value of smart grids to obtain real-time control of their energy assets and increase energy security,” said Marks. “We view this acquisition as an opportunity for Siemens Government Technologies to grow its leading industry position in providing the best energy management solutions to our government customers.”
