Iowa Selects ACS to Develop Virtual Health Network

The state of Iowa has selected ACS Inc., a Xerox subsidiary, to help the state implement a health information exchange system, ACS announced Thursday.

ACS said the Iowa Health Information Network is intended to allow doctors and other health care industry personnel to electronically transfer and store medical information.

According to Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, director of Iowa’s Department of Public Health, ACS will provide analytics used for overviews of a patient’s health, medication history, family history, lab results and other vital statistics.

Funding will come from grants awarded through the 2009 stimulus package, which encourages states to develop digital health information exchanges. The program is expected to start piloting in July and full implementation is planned for December.
