The National Institute of Standards and Technology announced it is accepting proposals for a handheld fingerprint sensor.
The anti-resistant handheld device would be capable of biometric acquisition. It would be controlled through a wireless service, including a self-contained battery and power source, according to NIST's Special Publication 500-288: Specification for WS-Biometric Devices.
NIST outlined a two-part proposal process. First, applicants must provide detailed drawings along with software specifications pertaining to the proposed devise, in addition to basic functionality.
Applicants that make it to round two will then be required to produce an actual functioning integrated fingerprint sensor system.
NIST also announced the data mining tracks for the 2012 Text Retrieval Conference, informationWeek.com reported.
This years eight tracks included, contextual suggestion, crowdsourcing, knowledge base acceleration, legal, medical records, microblog, session and web.
