Raytheon‘s space and airborne systems business is working to improve one of the key tracking components used in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force“™s Predator B drone.
The Multi-Special Targeting System-B MTS-B is used for a variety of applications in aerial combat including:
- long-range surveillance
- high-altitude target acquisition
- laser designation for the HELLFIRE missile
- all tri-service and NATO laser-guided munitions
The Pentagon said Raytheon will be working to improve the overall functionality of the system under a $25,823,405 contract awarded by the Air Force. Raytheon will focus on upgrading the system’s imaging system from standard definition to high definition.
According to the release, improvements on the system are expected to be completed by Jan. 31, 2013.
