Harris said the award recognized Dr. John Shipley for his concept development, architectural approach and system definition that led to the development of a NRO collection asset.
Shipley also was credited with developing a beam-forming design.
Shipley first joined the company in 1979 and holds ten patents. He was named a Harris Fellow in 2000 and is also a licensed professional engineer in Florida.
Kent Buchanan, Harris’ chief technology officer, said Shipley’s work contributed to the company’s standing in the reconnaissance market.
Shipley received the award Feb. 3 during a ceremony at NRO’s headquarters in Chantilly, Va.
