Northrop Sponsoring Smithsonian Aerospace Diversity Series

Northrop Grumman Corp. will sponsor the Smithsonian Institution’s heritage and history education initiative for 2012, Northrop announced Monday.

This is the seventh consecutive year Northrop is sponsoring the initiative and the company will sponsor the initiative through 2014.

According to the Smithsonian, the program recognizes accomplishments of African Americans, women, Native Americans and Asian Americans in aerospace.

Between Feb. 11 and Oct. 13, workshops will be held at the National Air and Space Museum‘s Washington, D.C. building and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport.

Northrop said attendees will be able to meet aerospace veterans including World War II pilots and astronauts.

The initiative is also intended to encourage students to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
