The Defense Department selected a SiemensBoeing alliance to implement energy management solutions for infrastructure energy security, the companies announced Monday.

The team also includes the University of California at Berkeley and KEMA Services Inc.

Judy Marks, president and CEO of Siemens Government Technologies, said the project could provide a model for implementing solutions at other Defense Department sites.

Siemens will deploy energy management solutions in order to eliminate energy waste from unoccupied spaces and uncoordinated load control at the department site.

Siemens said the technology will interoperate with existing building automation systems.

The solution uses Boeing’s services-oriented architecture to create a central microgrid energy management solution.

KEMA will contribute energy modeling, retro-commissioning services and energy optimization.

The University of California team will develop local gateways for managing common office equipment electricity usage.
