A group of Western states has selected an information technology and biometrics vendor to modernize the organization’s criminal identification system under a multiyear contract.

Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming are all a part of the Western Identification Network

GovTech reports WIN’s member states each have access to nearly 28 million fingerprint records in the U.S..

WIN selected a contractor to update the biometric information system to make it compliant with the FBI‘s biometric transmission specifications.

WIN’s cloud-based system will give WIN access to advanced identification capabilities including fingerprint matching and high-resolution palm matching, according to GovTech.

The WIN system will be moved to a highly fault-tolerant architecture supporting advanced biometrics technology and will position WIN to implement the FBI’s next generation identification system, GovTech reports.
