DRS Sponsoring Student Infrared Imaging Competition - top government contractors - best government contracting eventDRS Technologies Inc. is inviting students from 13 universities to develop entries for an infrared imaging competition, the company announced Monday.

The company’s reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting group is sponsoring the competition.

Students will devise ways to incorporate the camera into projects that focus on image fusion, augmented reality, robotic vision, machine vision and other commercial applications.

Group President Terry Murphy said the company wanted to give students and faculty to show something it hasn’t seen in thermal, infrared imaging.

The company donated Tamarisk 320 thermal imaging cameras to each participating university.

The best entry from each school will receive $1,000 and become eligible for a $10,000 grand prize.

Participating universities include Boston University, Florida Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins University, Norwich University, Ohio University, Oklahoma State University, Penn State University, UCLA, University of Memphis, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of Texas at Arlington and University of Texas at Dallas.

A panel of DRS senior leaders and outside experts in infrared technology will select the grand prize winner.

The company will recognize all winners at a June awards ceremony in Dallas.
