Alion to Help Navy Make Fresh Water From The Seas - top government contractors - best government contracting eventAlion Science and Technology Corp. has won a $5 million Navy contract to develop systems for converting sea water into fresh water, the company announced Tuesday.

The company will develop the desalination plants for the Office of Naval Research using micro filter technology.

The units will will be used in both open and littoral waters and able to operate for extended periods of time, said Greg Bryant, senior vice president and manager of the integrated solutions group.

The Navy will receive two systems: one to treat 4,000 gallons of water per day and another for handling 100,000 gallons of water daily.

The Navy also recently awarded the company a $30 million contract to provide engineering, reliability and risk assessments.
