Raytheon Weather Satellite System Sends Data To, From Antarctica; Bill Sullivan Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon’s common ground system sent and received data between a station in Antarctica and an Air Force facility in Nebraska, the company announced Wednesday.

CGS was developed for the joint polar satellite system and successfully sent and received data from McMurdo Station in Antarctica and the Air Force’s weather agency in Omaha, Neb.

The system was created to update the government’s defense weather capabilities.

Bill Sullivan, Raytheon’s JPSS CGS program director, said the milestone marks the last major project phase for the communications infrastructure.

The company received help from other contracting firms and agencies including Harris Corp., the National Science Foundation, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.OAA and Air Force representative.

Raytheon recently announced it was able to integrate its GPS Next Generation Operational Control System with Lockheed Martin’s GPS III satellite systems.
