Harris Corp. won a contract to provide a back-up air traffic control for the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq, the company announced Thursday.

Financial information regarding the contract was not disclosed.

The Melbourne, Fla.-based company will provide Liberty-STAR voice communication and control system to support the airport’s primary Liberty-STAR VCCS and will assist air traffic controllers in Baghdad.

Liberty-STAR connects air traffic control towers, airline towers, control dispatch, flight service station and mobile shelters.

Subcontractors will install the system and conduct operation and maintenance training to hone Iraqi air traffic controllers and technical staff.

Afghanistan, Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia have received similar systems.

In late February, the company won two contracts to deliver the air traffic control system to regional airports in Indonesia.
