Microsoft has released a new multi-tenant community cloud for government customers, the company announced Wednesday.
Office 365 for Government stores U.S. government data in an isolated cloud, said Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president of the company’s Office division.
Koenigsbauer said it provides productivity and collaboration services with Exchange Online, Lync Online, SharePoint Online and Office Professional Plus.
According to the company, Office 365 complies with federal government standards such as:
- U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
- U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- U.S. Federal Information Security Management Act
The system will begin supporting IPv6 by September this year.
In March, U.S. Public Sector Vice President Curt Kolcun announced that federal customers could choose either a private or public cloud for Office 365.
