PAE‘s New Zealand business unit will help Lockheed Martin Corp. operate and maintain infrastructure for a research program in the Antarctic region, PAE announced Friday.
Lockheed serves as the prime contractor for the $2 billion contract with the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Antarctic Program.
PAE’s Wellington-based unit work with more than 2,000 program participants in Antarctica and they will travel to the region through Christchurch, said CEO Philip Orchard.
The companies will also help the NSF transport people and cargo to and from medical facilities, research vessels, construction projects and remote sites in the Antarctic region.
Since 1956, NSF and USAP researchers have studied the region’s ecosystem, its responses and effects to climate change.
