Profile: Hank Steininger, Grant Thornton Global Public Sector Managing Partner

Hank Steininger

Hank Steininger is the managing partner of the global public sector business at Grant Thornton, where he plans, coordinates and executes the company’s government business worldwide.

He is also a member of the operating committee, which oversees and manages national and regional businesses.

Previously, he served as the company’s chief operating officer in the U.S., where he was responsible for all operations including strategy development, all business service lines — audit, tax and consulting — and geographic practices in 60 offices around the country. He has also served as a member of the U.S. partnership board. He previously was the managing partner for the Washington area offices and helped clients in the fields of technology, financial services, real estate, not-for-profit and government organizations. He also led the firm’s initiatives and programs in government contracting.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, he was a partner with Ernst Young and served in leadership positions in government industry specialization, management consulting and information technology. He also served an executive vice president and chief operating officer for an environmental and engineering consulting firm and led its information technology subsidiary.

He has served as chairman emeritus for TechAmerica and is a member of both TechAmerica’s executive committee and board of directors. He previously served as chairman of the board for TechAmerica and the Information Technology Association of America. He is a member of the national executive committee of the board of directors of the Association of Government Accountants and serves as chairman of the AGA’s Corporate Partners Advisory Group.

He is also a member of the Washington-based Federal City Council, a trade group involved in developing the nation’s capital city business strategy and related initiatives, and of the Economic Club.

The certified public accountant holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from George Washington University. He is also a Certified Management Consultant, a Certified Information Technology Professional, and a Certified Government Financial Manager.

Professional memberships include the American Institute of CPA’s, the Greater Washington Society of CPA’s, Institute of Management Consultants, and the American Society of Military Comptrollers.
