ATK Providing Army Abrams Tank Training Ammo

ATK has won a $36 million Army delivery order to produce training ammunition for use on the Abrams battle tank, the company announced Monday.

The contract, which has one base-year and four option years, calls for the company to manufacture 120-milimeter training ammunition for use in U.S. and European ranges.

Since 1980, ATK has delivered more than four million rounds of 120-milimeter tactical and training tank ammunition to the Army, Marine Corps and allied militaries.

Warfighters will use the M865 kinetic energy and M100 multi-purpose anti-tank training rounds on the tank for training, the company said.

The company will manufacture training ammunition at the Navy-owned, ATK-operated Allegany Ballistics Laboratory facility in Rocket Center, W.Va.

At Allegany, the company makes technologies for munitions assemblies, electronic fuzing and integration, solid rocket motor propulsion and material structures

Program management and systems engineering support will occur out of the company’s Plymouth, Minn. facility.
