Harris Corp. has performed the first live, nationwide public safety broadband capability demonstration for first responders, the company announced Thursday.

The event showcased the 700 MHz Band Long Term Evolution as multi-site users across the U.S. connected to the LTE network.

During the event, Harris linked “pilot“ programs from Las Vegas, Miami, and Rochester, N.Y. to its LTE core in Chelmsford, Mass., utilizing the company's BeOn application which features Project 25.

The pilot program provided participants with presence, real-time video, mapping, data applications, and voice and messaging services.

Harris used the application in Chelmsford which coordinated three vehicles to simulate surveillance operations allowing participants to view remote users in Las Vegas, Miami-Dade and Rochester and provide a streaming video from car-mounted dash cams.

Chuck Shaughnessy, vice president for Harris' LTE Business, said Harris and its partner Nokia Siemens Networks help public safety agencies explore next generation broadband capabilities through demonstration, and temporary “pilot“ programs.

Harris has also provided 700 MHz Band LTE “pilot“ programs to key public safety organizations including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Miami-Dade Police Department.

Additionally, the Harris Band 14 LTE Radio Access Networks operates in Chelmsford, Mass. and Rochester, N.Y.
