L-3 Communications is one of 15 recipients of a Defense Department award for employer support of National Guard and Reserve members and their families.
The company said it was selected from among 3,236 nominees for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
“As an aerospace and defense contractor, many of our employees have the unique opportunity to serve our nation twice, both as active duty members of the Reserve and Guard,” said Michael Strianese, L-3’s chairman, president and CEO.
The company said awardees were chosen by a board comprised of business leaders, Pentagon officials and prior awardees.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Defense Department committee, is recognizing the company for providing seminars on issues facing veterans and supporting charitable work for families of deployed members.
The company also provides financial support, employment counseling and career development for soldiers transitioning out of active duty.
