David Ryan is vice president and general manager of the intelligence systems division within Northrop Grumman‘s information systems sector, which supplies systems and services to the intelligence community in areas of space, human intelligence, geospatial intelligence, weather information and collaboration analytic environments.
Prior to holding this position, he served as VP of business development for the sector, leading the sector’s business development team in pursuing business across the sector’s defense, intelligence and civil markets.
He has also served as VP of programs for the company’s mission systems sector, where he applied engineering and process management principles for programs.
Earlier, he served as VP and GM of the civil systems division of within the company’s space technology sector, responsible for executing all civil space programs and acquiring new civil space business.
He also has served as vice president and program director of the National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System program, a remote sensing system for measure and disseminating environmental data to civilian and national security users.
As the sector's VP of payloads and sensors, he led the development and implementation of the sensor and payload strategy and oversaw all subcontract management for that sector.
Before joining Northrop in 2005, Ryan was president of Boeing‘s international satellite systems unit. Previous assignments included service as VP and deputy GM in the space and intelligence systems division, vice president and deputy program manager for the National Reconnaissance Office's future imagery architecture program during the program's first three years and VP and deputy GM of the satellite systems division.
In that position, he was responsible for a number of commercial satellite ventures and military satellite programs such as GPS.
Before joining Boeing, he designed and operated satellite systems for TRW. His technical training is in communication systems engineering, systems engineering and integrating and testing satellite and electronic systems.
He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Rice University.
