Harris Corp. and Quest Diagnostics are partnering to expand Florida’s health information exchange by integrating new messaging services, Harris announced Tuesday.
In 2010, Harris and the state’s Agency for Healthcare Administration signed a four-year contract to implement the HIE infrastructure in Florida.
Harris’ direct secure messaging service will integrate with Quest Diagnostics' Care360 suite to provide physicians online laboratory test ordering, e-prescribing, clinical messaging and clinical documentation.
Don Mestas, vice president of healthcare solutions at Harris, said the partnership is adding 11,000 physician offices in Quest Diagnostics' Florida physician network to the NIE.
In his executive spotlight, Mestas told ExecutiveBiz caregivers in central Florida are increasingly using smartphones and tablets, presenting a challenge to the company’s communications solutions (click here for his full comments).
Harris said the HIE network is now connected to Care360 providers, pharmacies and hospital members for accessing clinical information, communications and care coordination.
Medical personnel use the network to send referrals, provider-to-provider messages and exchange patient health information such as health histories, results, medication histories, lab results, problem lists and other clinical data.
