The planned separation of Science Applications International Corp. and the potential threat of sequestration were among the main topics at a recent industry seminar featuring SAIC CEO John Jumper, the Washington Business Journal reports.

According to Tong Zhang’s story, Jumper told attendees at the Northern Virginia Technology Council-hosted breakfast event one of the two companies arising from the split is likely to remain at the Tysons Corner campus.

The technical services spinoff will be located somewhere else in the Washington region, Jumper said, according to the report.

Jumper told the audience the technical services firm and the other science and technology-focused firm will be free from regulations on organizational conflicts of interest.

On the topic of sequestration, Jumper said he is a “a glass half-full” guy whose glass is draining as the Jan. 2 start date of sequestration gets closer without a deal in Congress, the Business Journal reports.

If the 15 percent cut is imposed, he believes some programs would be unexecutable.

Delay or replacing the cuts, then getting to a debate-and-compromise phase is the only way to avoid the sequester, Jumper said.
