Intel to Build 2nd $3B Factory in Oregon to Expand Chip Production - top government contractors - best government contracting eventIntel has confirmed it will build a twin of the $3 billion D1X factory announced two years ago, expanding its chip production site in Hillsboro, Ore.

According to tom’s hardware, the second 1.1 billion square foot factory is scheduled to be up and running by 2013.

Both buildings will stand 122 feet tall.

The D1X twin will produce 14 nm processors and accommodate future lithography technology, including extreme ultraviolet lithography with multiple-story chip production equipment.

Intel also said it is retrofitting its previously closed down Fab20 in Hillsboro.

The article said investing in fabs and future manufacturing has been part of Intel’s history and has put it in a good position in the chip manufacturing business.
