Oceus Networks has updated its Xiphos system, used for communications over 4G LTE, with a new rugged modular hardware design concept.
The company said Xiphos has a range of between 5 and 7 miles in a normal tactical environment and up to 62 miles range for airborne deployments with clear line of sight.
“Through working closely with our defense and national security customers, we“™ve advanced the Xiphos platform to meet emerging requirements,“ said CEO Doug Smith in a release.
He added Xiphos is provided to “tactical military, civil infrastructure, emergency responders and others where access to fast, secure mobile connectivity can literally change lives.”
The new Xiphos design is updated for ruggedization, flexibility and scalability and has reduced size and weight from previous designs.
Oceus is working with the Federal Communications Commission to develop an airborne communications architecture that can provide backup resources during emergencies.
