BAE to Build DARPA Weapons Computing Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting eventBAE Systems has won funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop new computing technology for weapons systems, Nextgov reports.

The $10.6 million award comes through the Power Efficiency Revolution For Embedded Computing Technologies initiative, which aims to provide more effective embedded computing per watt of electrical power, Dawn Lim reports.

DARPA recently awarded nearly $15 million in funding under the program to the author of Apple’s Siri program and a New York-based compiler maker.

Citing solicitation documents, Lim reports DARPA wants to solve the problem of ISR systems (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) collecting more information than they can process in real time.

Some data gets recorded and processed hours or days post-collection while other data is discarded, the documents say.
