BAE Systems has won an $80 million contract to build two gun systems for the U.S. Navy’s Zumwalt destroyer fleet, the company announced Wednesday.

The company said it has already designed, built and integrated four of the Advanced Gun Systems for the fleet’s first two DDG 1000 destroyers.

Under this contract, the company will build the AGS system on a third destroyer, bringing the total amount of initial contract funding on this ship to $149 million.

“This contract demonstrates the progress made on the DDG 1000 program with the integration of AGS technology onto now a third DDG 1000 destroyer,“ said Dave Johnson, BAE’s director of the DDG 1000 program.

The AGS is a 155-milimeter, vertically-loaded gun mount that fires up to 10 automatic rounds per minute at a potential 69-mile range.

It holds up to 300 of the Long Range Land Attack Projectile rounds, according to the company.

Work will occur at company facilities in Louisville and Cordova, Ala. through January 2018.
