The Defense Department has awarded Battelle with a $6.2 million contract to develop battery boxes for robots that handle explosive devices, according to a company statement.
The contract involves development of 500 MK2 battery boxes annually, for the man transportable robotic system.
The contract will be performed over a five year time span.
Explosives ordnance disposal technicians use the MK2 battery boxes to power up the man transportable robotic system for remotely dismantling improvised explosive devices and other unexploded ordnance.
According to the company, Battelle has provided the DoD with thousands of MK2 battery boxes since 2008.
