CacheIQ sells flash memory-based caching appliances and received $6 million in funding in its first two years.
According to Howard, CacheIQ may have been part a reboot of StorSpeed, an earlier NAS acceleration startup, and Greg Dahl held executive positions in both incarnations.
Both firms aimed to make the network file system cache a networking function without terminating NFS sessions at the caching appliance, Howard writes.
The product responds to requests with data from the cache or passes the requests on to the back-end NAS filer, allowing it to run on standard servers and Ethernet switches.
NetApp has discontinued CacheIQ“™s RapidCache appliances and will not be selling the product to EMC Celerra and VNX customers, the report said.
