CiscoLogoCisco has completed its purchase of privately-held Cariden Technologies Inc. for approximately $141 million in cash and retention-based incentives, Cisco announced Monday.

Cariden, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., provides network planning, design and traffic management solutions to telecommunications service providers.

Cariden’s team will join Cisco“™s service provider networking group and Cisco said it aims for the transaction to help advance its nLight technology for Internet Protocol and optical convergence.

The acquisition includes Cariden“™s capacity planning and management tools for IP/Multi-Protocol Label Switching networks and talent, Cisco said.

Cisco said it wants to help service providers improve programmability of networks and utilization of existing network assets across IP and optical transport layers.

This is Cisco’s second announcement of a closed acquisition this month, as it also completed its $125 million buy of software firm Cloupia.
