The Energy Department has released a cloud computing strategy and overview for use by the department’s 22 national laboratories, Information Week reports.
Nicholas Hoover writes the strategy is an attempt to put each lab’s cloud strategy on the same page but continue the department’s hands-off approach to information technology at the labs.
The strategy includes DOE’s YOURcloud service, a hybrid cloud-based service to link the agency and national labs to different cloud service providers.
According to Hoover, the strategy also included introducing Fermi laboratory’s private cloud to test scientific applications and for granting access to virtual machines without requiring IT access.
DOE also discussed cloud email collaboration practices and migration to virtual desktops at the Nevada National Security Site.
