IBM Aiming for Big Data Litigation Support Growth, Buying StoredIQ; Deidre Paknad Comments

IBMlogoIBM has agreed to acquire Texas-based big data software maker StoredIQ with the goal of helping clients use big data to respond to litigation and regulations and dispose information.

IBM said it will integrate StoredIQ into its software group and information lifecycle governance business and expects to close the transaction in the first quarter of 2013.

According to IBM, StoredIQ helps business leaders access big data for decision-making, legal teams to meet e-discovery obligations and information technology personnel to dispose of data.

“CIOs and general counsels are overwhelmed by volumes of information that exceed their budgets and their capacity to meet legal requirements,” said Deidre Paknad, IBM’s vice president of information lifecycle governance.

“IBM and StoredIQ are longstanding partners with existing integration between IBM’s information lifecycle governance suite and StoredIQ’s active data management software,” said Phil Myers, StoredIQ’s CEO.

IBM said it intends for this acquisition to complement its 2012 buy of Vivisimo and 2010 buy of PSS
