Intel‘s board of directors will likely appoint its next CEO from within the company when Paul Otellini retires in May, Otellini said Wednesday, according to Marketwatch.

Benjamin Pimentel writes analysts listed possible internal candidates to include Chief Product Officer David Perlmutter, Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith and Sales and Marketing General Manager Thomas Kilroy.

Otellini told attendees at a San Francisco technology conference he was comfortable with the internal candidates and he thought both the board and management team were also comfortable with the plan to appoint from within, according to the report.

Otellini, a nearly four-decade company veteran, announced his retirement in November and the company said the board of directors would consider both internal and external candidates to succeed him (click over to GovCon Wire for more on Otellini’s career).
