SEC Vet James Kroeker to Help Lead Deloitte Professional Practice

James Kroeker

Deloitte has appointed James Kroeker, former chief accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission, to serve as deputy managing partner for the firm’s professional practice.

The firm said he will report directly to Chairman and CEO Joe Echevarria and work with engagement teams and clients in financial reporting.

He began serving as the SEC’s chief accountant in January 2009, where he also counseled the agency on accounting and auditing issues.

“Jim has a unique perspective in accounting and auditing having deep technical knowledge, practical client service expertise, and experience as a regulator in his latest role as chief accountant at the SEC,” Echevarria said. “Our top priority is audit quality and Jim’s contributions will be invaluable to the work we do serving audit committees, investors and the public interest.”

Kroeker initially joined the agency in 2007 as deputy chief accountant and has also served as staff director of the agency’s study of fair value accounting standards, mandated by Congress in 2008.

He also led efforts to consider convergence of U.S. and international accounting standards.

Before joining the SEC, he served as a partner in Deloitte’s accounting services group.
