Symantec Gets US, Canada Govt Approval for Cryptographic Module; John Bordwine Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA Symantec cryptographic messaging system has received approval from the U.S. and Canadian governments for use at national agencies in both countries.

The company said the National Insitute of Standards and Technology and the Communications Security Establishment Canada developed FIPS 140-2 to certify cryptographic modules for protecting sensitive information.

Symantec Messaging Gateway“™s control center cryptographic module and scanner cryptographic module received the distinction via independent testing and validation and the Messaging Gateway also received the Common Criteria certification from the International Standards Organization.

“Achieving FIPS 140-2 validation and Common Criteria certification reinforces Symantec’s commitment to delivering trusted and proven security solutions for our customers,“ said John Bordwine, chief technology officer of Symantec’s public sector organization. “These certifications provide federal agencies with assurance that Symantec Messaging Gateway can be deployed with confidence in even the most demanding environments.”

The ISO’s Common Criteria certification is mandated in U.S. federal agencies and is also recognized by the U.K., Canada, Germany and Australia.

Symantec says its Messaging Gateway catches more than 99 percent of spam with less than one in a million false positives.
