CloudNISTDell, Intel and WestSummit have invested $10 million combined in OpenStack cloud vendor Mirantis, InfoWorld reports.

The companies made the investment in hopes of pushing OpenStack as an open source cloud platform for the public and private sector, according to the report.

Ted Samson writes Mirantis has worked on 30 deployments over 18 months for customers such as NASA, WebEx, Gap, PayPal and AT&T.

Adrian Ionel, Mirantis president and CEO, said the company is aiming to become a universal control plane for the application infrastructure fabric, the report said.

Nnamdi Orakwue, Dell’s vice president for cloud, said Dell sees OpenStack as a central component of its cloud strategy and wants to give customers open source platforms.
