SpaceCom to Launch AMOS Satellite Aboard SpaceX Vehicle; Gwynne Shotwell Comments

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) and Space Communication Ltd. have announced an agreement to launch the SpaceCom-built AMOS-6 satellite aboard Space X’s falcon 9 launch vehicle., according to a SpaceX statement. 

“Spacecom was one of our earliest supporters“”SpaceX is proud to be their partner and we look forward to launching their AMOS-6 satellite,“ said Gwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX.

Her company signed 14 launch contracts in 2012, according to the release. 

AMOS-6 will provide communication services, including home internet for Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

The AMOS-6 is set to launch in 2015 and will replace AMOS-2, which will end its service in 2016.

Spacecom president and CEO David Pollack said AMOS-6 will be larger and stronger than AMOS-2 and AMOS3 combined.

 “As we establish our position as a global satellite operator providing more services and capacity, AMOS-6 will be a key element of our business strategy and future.“

The AMOS-6 mission expected to launch in 2015, from Cape Canaveral, Fl.
