As project lead, Accenture will oversee all maintenance procedures for the VIS and Morpho will supply the biometric matching modules.

The EC says it is facing new challenges in traveler management, citizen protection, border security and visa application complexity.

“Morpho is proud to have been chosen once again to supply the biometric matching services for the VIS,“ said Jean-Paul Jainsky, Morpho chairman and CEO.

Accenture and Morpho have each worked with the EC for six years, with the two firms working under the Bridge Consortium to help develop the biometrics aspect of the VIS.

HP will reprise its role as provider of the infrastructure and related technology services and backup systems to VIS and could take on additional network support under the new contract, the EC says.

Consulates and border management authorities worldwide access the VIS, initially launched in 2011, to exchange alphanumeric and biometric data of visa applicants to the Schengen states.

Mark Crego, head of Accenture's global border and identity management business, said the company is aiming to help border agencies manage increasing numbers of travelers and complex visa applications.

“We are pleased to have been chosen by the European Commission to lead this consortium of suppliers over the coming years.” Crego said.

Information technology support and services providers Daon and WCC Smart Search and Match will join Accenture as subcontractors to the project.
