ATK Hardware Helps Lift Rocket, Mapping Satellite; David Shanahan Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting event

ATK-logoATK provided hardware to both a BoeingLockheed Martin joint venture for a Monday rocket launch and for a satellite the rocket carried into space.

The United Launch Alliance‘s Atlas V rocket carried an ATK composite heat shield and propellant tank and the Landsat Data Continuity Mission satellite carries ATK hardware as well, ATK said Tuesday.

Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp. built the Landsat satellite for NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey to image Earth every 16 days and examine spectral data (click here for our coverage of the program).

David Shanahan, ATK vice president and general manager of the space components division, said the company is aiming to help customers and future generations understand the planet.

ATK’s team designed, built, and tested the LDCM satellite’s graphite composite structures.
