IPKeysTechnology and communications firm IPKeys is providing cybersecurity and information services for a team aiming to develop energy microgrids for federal agencies.

This is the first phase of the Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security for the departments of Defense, Energy and Homeland Security, IPKeys said.

Engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell is leading the project team, which includes IPKeys, Intelligent Power & Energy Research Corp. and Parsons Corp.

Phase one of the SPIDERS program will take place at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii, where the team will provide the Naval Facilities Engineering Command-Hawaii a circuit-level microgrid.

The team is aiming to build a cyber-secure microgrid that uses existing generation tools such as renewable energy sources.

Since the Dec. 1, 2001, contract award, Burns & McDonnell has completed design and procurement of long-lead equipment, construction planning and development of the cybersecurity plan to obtain authority for operating the SPIDERS control network.

New Jersey-based IPKeys works with customers in the defense, federal, commercial and energy sectors in deploying Internet Protocol-based technology and communications systems.
