IntelLogoIntel will launch an online television service this year in an effort aimed at diversifying its portfolio beyond the PC market, the Financial Post reports.

The computer chip maker plans to offer consumers both live programming and on-demand content via a set-top box, according to the newspaper.

Erik Huggers, vice president and general manager of Intel’s media business, said on Tuesday the company has worked to start up the unit over the past year and focus it on Internet platforms, the newspaper reports.

Intel also will install a camera in the set-top-box intended to automatically target content and ads toward specific users.

Apple, Amazon and Google are also in the online television market, according to the Financial Post.
