Iran Claims Success In Downing Mock Drone

IranDroneIran’s Revolutionary Guard is claiming it successfully brought down mock foreign surveillance drones during recent tests, Reuters reports.

Citing a report from the state’s Fars news agency, Stephen Powell writes the government used hypothetical drones in the test.

Powell writes that the news agency removed the word “hypothetical” from its account of the test with the goal of giving an impression that it brought down a real drone.

Other official Iranian media outlets later reported on the downing of a “hypothetical” aircraft, Powell reports.

This follows other claims from Iran that its air defense unit brought down RQ11 Raven drones in August 2011 and November 2012, according to Reuters.
