Lockheed Martin sponsored an awards program to recognize high school students for achievement in the classroom and service to the community, the South Philly Review reports.

Joseph Myers writes the company has sponsored Police Athletic League Day in Philadelphia for the last seven years and PAL Day observed its 43rd year.

Gerry Fasano, Lockheed president of information systems and global solutions, helped present the awards at City Hall Tuesday and said awardees could one day be leaders of Philadelphia.

Jasmine McNeil, a high school senior, was recognized for serving as a homework club instructor and attendance coordinator for a PAL center.

She also participates in a mentoring program intended to provide elementary students career readiness discussions, leadership building activities and physical awareness tutorials.

Other awardees included Montel Little, who participates in civic projects, and Ishay Sims, who has participated in PAL center activities for more than seven years.
